The hapū, Te Whanau Moana me Te Rorohuri, have taken a holistic approach to manage their Moana, using cultural and scientific knowledge to inform decisions regarding their rohe. Recognising the importance of tikanga Māori based decision-making, Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust have supported the hapū and helped establish a monitoring programme to document the restoration process. The initiative was designed for ongoing, long- term marine monitoring of the area.
